What Friends Are For- by: unknown forgotten
We dove deeper into more devious plans
But nothing worked so well but wearing black masks
We were too drunk to drive
So we ran through the night
Our feet pounded away on the concrete beneath
Are motions awkward
Our minds trailing off
Each step we took, took us closer to success
Inside the neon lights flickered wildly about
The air was stiff and cold
The place barren, except a lonely clerk
As the automatic doors slid slowly open to let us in
We pounced him with fists like bullets
Broke open the register and took all the cash
Grabbed a pack or two of smokes
And hit the road running once again
Sirens shouted through the night
We dodged through yards, alleys, and parking lots
At every turn there was the black and whites
Spinning red and blue lights
I ran into a random house
The family's picture was on the mantle
I sat silently as they slept in their beds
And waited for the police to clear the area
The bag of money felt heavy in my hand
My palms were sweaty
It was hard to realize what had just happened
I counted the money on the table
It was just what we needed
2 days later we went to the courthouse
Briefcase of cash in hand
Paid my best friends' bail
And it was his first time out in a month
He didn't ask how we got the money
He didn't even look us in the eyes
He just murmered softly "Thanks."
And we were all on our seperate ways.
