The keys slid across the laminated floor
He knelt down to pick them up
She ran out the front door
Outside the window the wind blew with might on the trees
A branch broke off and landed in the road
A lady speeding and digging through here purse did not see the blocked road
She hit the branch and lost control as well as the car behind her
She hit a pole the other car hit her
She died immediately the other driver was rushed to the hospital
He died later that night from internal bleeding
On the radio played smooth jazz
The saxophone was beautiful
Nearby a child watched the whole crash happen
His name was Joseph and his parents were divorced
He was waiting for his school bus
He missed school that day
He missed a spelling quiz
And he missed recess where he would have met Jessica
It was her first day at this new school
She was a shy little girl who liked to sing
Her parents just moved here for her fathers job
He was a police officer and had been for 4 years then
20 years later Joseph and Jessica would be married and have a child
He worked in a business building
Its reflective windows reached miles into the sky
His desk was small and cluttered with paper
A note to see the boss sat upon his desk
She stayed home with the baby
He worked too much though and neglected his family
So Jessica started an affair with one of Joseph's friends
He found out on an early afternoon
It was a cold day but the sun was shining
He had lost his job despite his hard efforts to keep it
The door was slightly ajar as he entered his own home
The baby was crying in it's room
He caught them in the act
Throbbing like wild animals upon the bed he payed for
His heart was broken then enraged
Up in the rafters in the garage there was a box
He took it down, ripped off his tie and opened the box
It contained a gun Joseph was given to by his father when he turned 16
That was to be the last time he saw his father before he disappeared
A relative had said they saw his father 3 years ago in California
Joseph never looked any further into it
He aimed the rifle at the adulterer's head and fired
The man died instantly
Blood splattered across the room
Staining the off white curtains
And dripping onto the carpet
Jessica was unaware Joseph had entered the room when it happened
Joseph just walked away silently back down the stairs
She grabbed some clothes and ran out of the house
She frantically screamed and threw her keys at him
The keys slid across the laminated floor
He knelt down to pick them up
